CLA, Good Fats, and Pasture-Raised Beef

Why the fat profile of pasture-raised beef keeps coming up in conversations about whole-food, higher-protein eating.

We flagged the research on conjugated linoleic acid — CLA — on this website long before it became a common topic. In the years since, interest in fat quality has grown alongside the popularity of higher-protein, lower-carbohydrate patterns of eating such as the paleo diet.

The short version: beef raised primarily on pasture carries a meaningfully different fat profile from beef finished on high-grain rations in confinement — more CLA, more omega-3 fatty acids, and more vitamin E. Researchers continue to study what that means for human health, and we are careful not to oversell it.

Great taste, real savings over the year, the convenience of a full freezer, and confidence in what you are feeding your family are all good reasons to buy from a farm you know. The nutritional profile is one more.
